Much to say about lunch in Mexico

I went to a local restaurant today and found the whole experience funny & terribly Mexican. The place was called Los Farolitos & they had a standard, rather extensive Northern Mexico menu. I should have known something was up when we asked about menu items & our waiter could only recommend we get the tacos. Since our group arrived in stages at the restaurant each of us ordered our beverages separately. But then it became ridiculous as our waiter would return from the bar area after each of our selections & he would say all they had was coke or water! He never said not to order a particular drink he would just calmly take the order then return within moments to tell us they didn't have whatever it was. It reminded me of the old Saturday Night Live sketch with John Belushi & Dan Akroyd at the diner that only served cheeseburgers & Pepsi! Sometimes down here I wait to see if there is a camera rolling somewhere! Also, we were the only ones in the whole restaurant & since the kitchen was open concept style we could see the activities in the grill area. It took forever to bring our tacos out to us & yet they were in a frenzy cooking up a storm like there were hundreds of persons instead of a small group women. All in all a very strange & funny experience. I kept waiting to hear someone yell: "cheeseburger, cheeseburger, Pepsi, Pepsi!" Our Vampiro & Pollo Tacos were quite tasty but then after the wait almost anything would have been delicious. Anticipation & and hunger do merge & dull the senses, I think.
Part of the experience here is not getting what you ask for but seeing what arrives once you make a request. A light hearted approach is an absolute must. Mexico really is a state of mind!
